Another very useful item for any home is a coat rack. If you want to create something original you can make one yourself using a tree branch or a piece of driftwood. You can either mount it on a wall or suspend it from the ceiling or any other structure. Add hooks directly onto the rack or put hangers on it to protect its surface. Make sure it’s big enough to accommodate your clothes and accessories.
Found on Design Rulz, this spectacular rooftop haven was designed by Secret Gardens and provides an unusual place of relaxation, far above the racket of the city. The landscaping process was focused on maximizing the vistas and creating a green oasis, 25 floors above the ground: “Buxus hedging and topiary cones add a formal element whilst iris and lavender create a whimsical effect. Timber seating frames the garden providing a place to sit and enjoy the garden and the amazing harbor views.” How would you comment on this project? Do you find this type of vantage point appealing in a city as dynamic as Sydney? Or would you rather have a similar terrace in a more secluded part of town, at a lower altitude?
Another thing you can make using driftwood is a cloth hanger. It’s a practical item and it will also have a unique look. For this project you’ll need some dry tree branches or pieces of driftwood, wire cutters, pliers, a saw, a drill and glue. Start by peeling off the bark from the branches so that your cloths won’t get dirty. Then drill a hole in the middle of the branch and attach the hook using strong glue. Let it dry and your hanger is ready.
This is a beautiful decoration for the house and a way of introducing a piece of nature inside. To make a similar decoration you need a piece of driftwood, hooks, nails and some air plants that don’t need soil. You should first clean the wood to get rid of the eventual bugs and unwanted bacteria and then screw the hooks to hang it on the wall. Add the plants and it’s done. The plants need either to be placed in water once or twice a week or to be sprayed with water occasionally.
Do your research before meeting with an interior designer or decorator. Ask yourself what you want your space to become and what it will be used for. Figure out the extent of what you need help with, what your must-haves are and what your budget is. Interior design services can add up fast, so be up front with a potential design firm or individual from the beginning. Also, pick a home decorator that fits your style. Browse through the portfolios of different home design firms and decide if you would live in those houses. Just because you like something doesn’t mean you could live in it. There is a big difference!. The scales are already balanced against getting the best price (unless your realtor takes a flat fee no matter the selling price— and not many do). How do you fix this? You need to stay firm when it comes time to barter the price. Have a number in your head that you are willing to pay and stick to it. Don’t allow anyone to negotiate a price that you are uncomfortable with and be willing to walk away if you don’t get what you want. Keep emotions at bay and know there are always other houses on the market if you lose this one.
